Crisalida proudly presents: VIVA EL TEATRO! TORONTO’S FIRST FESTIVAL OF THEATRE IN SPANISH. An entire month of first class plays by world-renowned authors, presented in Spanish with English translation. 17 dates to choose from. Join us in this artistic showcase of wit, passion, rebelliousness, and laughter as we kick off Hispanic Heritage Month (April) in Toronto with a line up that includes: Nobel laureate Dario Fo, immortal beloved Federico García Lorca, and surrealist master Alvaro Menéndez Leal, among others.
The festival features Tango by Leeliana’s dancers as well as live Tango singing by Elbio Fernández. Also embellishing our festival: Tom Duffin and friends (our usual amazing musicians), the talented Flamenco bailaora María-Margarita Rigó, Damidance group with Mambo-Cha performances, and more. A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to the following community organizations: Grupo Solidario Ibiray, Casa Cultural Colombiana, Coordinadora de Asociaciones Salvadoreñas de Ontario, Patronato de Artes del Perú, and ALIDDESA Women’s Centre.
The first three weeks of the festival will take place at the Palmerston Library Theatre, 560 Palmerston Avenue (at Bathurst subway station). The festival ends with Noche de Teatro III at the George Ignatieff Theatre, 15 Devonshire Place (at St. George subway station). Check the attached poster for dates and times. Crisálida se enorgullece en presentar: VIVA EL TEATRO! EL PRIMER FESTIVAL DE TEATRO EN ESPANOL DE TORONTO. Todo un mes de obras teatrales de primera clase, escritas por dramaturgos reconocidos a nivel mundial y presentadas en español con traducción al inglés. 17 funciones en total para elegir. Acompáñenos en este muestrario artístico de astucia, pasión, rebeldía y risas que marca el inicio del Mes de la Herencia Hispana (abril) en Toronto. El menú artístico incluye trabajos de Dario Fo (Premio Nobel en Literatura), el inmortal Federico García Lorca y el maestro surrealista Alvaro Menéndez Leal entre otros.
El festival contará con la participación de bailarines del grupo Tango by Leeliana y la participación de Elbio Fernández con canto de Tango. También estarán embelleciendo nuestro festival: Tom Duffin y sus amigos (nuestros fabulosos músicos de siempre), la talentosa bailaora de flamenco María-Margarita Rigó, el grupo Damidance con Mambo-cha y más. Un porcentaje de las ventas de boletos serán donadas a las siguientes organizaciones comunitarias: Grupo Solidario Ibiray, Casa Cultural Colombiana, Coordinadora de Asociaciones Salvadoreñas de Ontario, Patronato de Artes del Perú y Centro para Mujeres ALIDDESA .
